About Mama Margaret

About Margaret Adekunbi Afolabi (1949 – 2024)

Margaret Adekunbi Afolabi was born on November 16, 1949, to the family of the late Chief Salimonu Ojeyinka, the Otun of Ejioku, in Lagelu Local Government Area, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

Margaret Afolabi was the only surviving child of her beloved mother and the firstborn of her father. She obtained her pharmacy degree at St. John University, Queens, New York, United States of America, in 1977 and became certified to practice as a pharmacist the same year.

Margaret married her husband, the late Dr. Adebayo Afolabi, on March 6, 1971. Mama Margaret unfortunately lost her beloved husband early on May 20, 1983, when their marriage was barely twelve years old, and she was just thirty-four years of age at the time. This devastated her, and she was left alone with the care of their five children. It was a very trying period in her life as her husband's family also left her alone with the care of the children because her husband, when alive, was the breadwinner of the family, and unfortunately, there was no one to care for his wife and children after his demise. She struggled and faced many terrible challenges to sustain and care for her children alone.

God used her family and some other individuals around her life as support pillars to hold her through these challenging periods in her life. By the grace of God, she survived these trying periods, and with the help of God, her children were well taken care of. They were all well-trained, educated, and well-established.

Because of these experiences of widowhood, when she became old before her death, she became a pillar of support to many less privileged people and a supporter of different charity organizations. In her lifetime, she was passionate about bringing joy and hope to less privileged and suffering people.

Margaret Adekunbi Afolabi died at the age of seventy-four on April 22, 2024. This foundation was established in her honor as a legacy to fulfill her passion to support less privileged people, particularly the widows and their children, and enable them to be relevant in the community. The foundation is to honor her commitment to helping widows and their families and to give them hope and improve their lives.
